From the Director of Swedish Meatballs comes the story of a two year Odyssey through a land covered in Granite. The adventure begins deep in the Forest of the Steepest Boulders where Peter Bosma encounters a real life Monster, Stefan Rasmussen, reincarnate of ancient Vikings. Narrowly escaping a Duel to the Death, Peter heads West in search of First Ascents high above frigid, Medusa filled, waters. But there is another, the Fearless Rasta, Stefan Wulf, willing to do Combat for Ultimate Glory. The cries of battle culminate in the awakening of the God of the Underworld, Björn Strömberg, struggling in his attempt to escape the confines of the Never Ending Cave.
Journey to a Mythical Land, where the denizens have discovered the Secret to Sending. The Sends, it’s what climbing is all about.

The good part: This movie is a nice introduction to the climbing scene in southern Sweden, with its high quality trad climbing, various bouldering and also deep water soloing. A lot of interesting ascents are shot, and both the filming and editing is decent.
And now to the not-so-good part: Unfortunately, the climbers and climbing profiles featured is less interesting than the climbs. This wouldn't matter that much, if it wasn't for the fact that they talk a lot. The local Swedes trying to be either funny or philosophical in their mediocre English just gets annoying after a while. The movie seems to have a desperate wish to explain all kinds of semi-spiritual aspects of climbing and "what it is all about", which actually most of the time sounds a bit pretentious (just read the desciption on the back of the cover, cited further up on this page!). I mean, don't make such a fuss about it - shut up and climb!
Still, what makes "The Sends" worthwhile after all is a lot of hard ascents of nice lines, just use your remote to skip through the most boring interviews!
